Jessica is a transgender Latter-Day Saint from California and is the oldest of 8 kids.
Born to faithful converts, Jessica served a Spanish and Mayan dialect-speaking mission
in Guatemala in the early 1990’s. After returning home, Jessica held many callings in
the Church, with her favorite being Sunday School teacher for the youth, something she
did for 15 years. 28 years of marriage gave Jessica five amazing children, just as many
amazing daughters and sons in-law, and four and a half grandchildren. Jessica recently
completed a bachelor’s degree in Human and Family Studies from BYU-Idaho and
works as a sergeant for a local law enforcement agency. Jessica’s gender identity
journey is currently an awkward balancing act, reflecting the challenges of both secular
and spiritual life, but she remains grateful that she is the recipient of God’s tender
mercies on a daily basis.
